Innovative shoe sole comprising modular and removable correction components for multiple sports applications
06 FR GECB 0E06

Abstract

A French SME specialised in design and development of orthopaedic shoes and shoe soles has developed and holds the exclusive rights on a patent for a new orthopaedic sole that can be inserted in any sports shoe. This sole is characterised by modular and removable correction components designed to provide optimum foot support for each kind of sports (and thus each type of effort) where it is used. The company is looking for partners to license out the patent.

Description

This footwear sole has been developed by podologists who are associates of the SME. The sole described here has an area in its upper surface that applies a pressure to the articular receptors of the foot situated between the astralagus (or ankle bone) and the calcaneum (main heel bone), and other areas that guide the movement of the foot along the physiological walking axis. It also has removable correctors to create an abduction or adduction and to correct varus and/or valgus (Varus describes a deformity where, in the case of a leg, the limb is bent away from the midline of the body. This condition is commonly referred to as bow legged. Valgus describes a deformity where, in the case of a leg, the limb is bent toward the midline of the body. This condition is commonly referred to as knock-kneed).

The underside of the sole has several cavities along its inner and outer edges to receive modular removable correction components, made from a more rigid material than the sole and in the appropriate shape to produce the required correction.
Each removable correction component is adapted to a specific sport. For instance if the user plays tennis, the abduction or adduction induced on the foot is not the same as if he or she is jogging.

Innovative Aspects:
This sole has two main innovative aspects that are both patent claims:
- The design of the upper side with areas specially shaped to apply the right pressure
- The removable modular correction components on the underside, which can be fitted or removed at the different given locations to provide the right 'support' depending on the type of sports practised.

Main Advantages:
The removable components make this sole multi-purpose. The same sole can be easily adapted to any type of sports just by fitting in the right underside component(s). A sportsman or woman can thus use a single pair of soles whatever sports he or she practices at once.
