A German R&D institute offers a cross-sectional technology for bio-functionalization of medical implants with a novel class of biomolecules. Two major principles are combined: 1) siRNA is employed as biomolecule which allows manipulating every protein-based cellular process. 2) Biomaterials are used as carriers to bind the siRNA as nanoparticles to a variety of different implants.
